On last Saturday (06.04.2024) with Kris we dug out Sharp Practice and played in Bolterafter 6 p.m., sitting there until 11 p.m. Again Bolter has come out to the community and on Saturday evenings that do not include RPG night, painting night or for example, two-day tournaments of master class, it will be available from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. – of course, it is available earlier, but since the gaming community is supported by Bolter, they are held there before 6 p.m. on Saturdays tournaments in all kinds of tabletop games, Sundays are also games days where tournaments happens. Many gamers would dream about such place!
Sharp Practice – a game from TooFatLardies is the skirmish type, in fact, to play and enjoy it, a box from Perry-Miniatures and rulebook may be enough – it is a budget system during the black powder era and we use it for playing Napoleonic Wars. I should have mentioned this in the article about miniature games I wrote some time ago, but there I wrote about systems that are easier to find players for, and this game is not one of them.
W ostatnią sobotę (06.04.2024) z Krisem odkopaliśmy Sharp Practice i zagraliśmy w Bolterzepo 18:00 siedząc tam do 23:00. Bolter znowu wyszedł do lokalnej społeczności i w te soboty co nie ma nocy RPG, nocy malarskich czy np. dwudniowych turniejów klasy master będzie również dostępny od 18 do 23 – oczywiście dostępny jest wcześniej, ale że środowisko graczy jest mocno wspierane przez Boltera, to przed 18 w soboty odbywają się tam turnieje w gry wszelakie, co sobotę w inny system, oczywiście w niedzielę także odbywają się tutaj turnieje. Wielu graczy może marzyć o takim miejscu!

Powinienem o tym systemie wspomnieć w artykule o grach figurkowych, który jakiś czas temu napisałem, ale tam wziąłem pod uwagę systemy w które łatwiej znaleźć graczy, a ta gra do takowych się nie zalicza.

Summary: – it was great to play again with Kris in this system. – first time it was a stalemate, as my force was able to held objectives.
Podsumowanie: – świetnie było znowu zagrać z Krisem w ten system. – pierwszy raz był to remis, jako że moje siły były w stanie utrzymać powierzone obiekty – cele dla przeciwnika.
We played in Bolter.pl in Wrocław, game in Sharp Practice on 50 points per side. I had three units and Kris had two units. Russia against Germany, battle for some bridge, somewhere in Eastern Europe. It was fast game, maybe it was one hour or one and half hour. I had three groups of Line Infantry under 3 lvl leader, Polish Uhlans with lvl 1 leader and Jagers with leader lvl 2. Kris had also three groups of his elite infantry with 4 lvl leader and skirmishers – not sure about level of leader, but all costs were up to 50 points.
Russian three groups of infantry marched as first unit to the village. Then Tiff finished first turn.
In the middle of village is a bridge.
Russian Jager infantry marched to the table.
Also uhlans deployed successfully.
Germans are coming.
Main target is to secure other side of bridge.
German skirmishers runned to the bridge.
Infantry followed.
Germans are coming to the bridge and Russians are reading maps.
Comrade, Germans are coming.
Germans crossed bridge with infantry on and skirmishers get into the forest, to shoot down Russians.
Russians formed into the line and started shooting at skirmishers.
Not many scored a hit, but one hit they own leader in head – resulting with losing one level of leadership.
Germans formed line and started shooting.
Then fixed bayonnets and charged on Russians.
Cruel meele combat started – Russians losed five men – wounded or killed, one group broke due loses.
Followed by two more groups retreating. Morale of my army went down from eight we started to two.
Then, with another group broken, morale went down to 0. Russians fled the field.

Summary: – we played interesting game, with larger groups of soldiers under better leaders. – I did mistake and focused on shooting on large unit, jet I should activate uhlans and jagers different way – to cross river by fords. – after first shoots infantry should fix bayonnets and charge like did Kris.
Today we played in Bolter.pl with Krzysiek, Tomek and Krystian. For Krystian it was first game in Sharp Practice. Victory points were for taking camp occupied at start of the game by Spanish light infantry and to capture a supply train from German Russian alliance – or safety go out with it from a field of battle. On one side were Germans and Russians, on the other English and Spanish.
Germans arrived – taking tents with them.
Objective is here and is well guarded.
Russians column how it should be. There are some ppl who know something as well – one near bridge, another one next to farm animals.
Germans advanced.
English arrived and saw Russians on the other side.
Russian cavalry runned switfly to the bridge.
Spanish moved through obstacle and started shooting at Russians.
Russian infantry for few turns were blocked, God and Tzar wasn’t with them for a longer moment.
Cavalry arrived just in front of British talking with civilian.
Almost everyone started shooting at Polish Uhlans.
German line infantry tried to shoot down British skirmishers.
Russian infantry squabled if it’s correct crossroad or not.
Another round of shooting from Spanish side. Cavalry fall back.
British skirmishers hid in forest.
Russian Jagers finally took position behind fence. God was with them, as no one died from Spanish fire.
Cavalry realized, that supply train was left by German ally and need protection.

Russian line infantry finally moved.
Germans crossing bridge.
Spanish outflanking Russians.
British against Germans – both side started shooting.
Spanish at the Russian flank – not good.
Spanish charged on bayonnets – challenge was issued – Russian leader fled heavily wounded – but his unit won.

Uhlans galloping to supply wagon.
Wounded, killed and shocked on both sides.
Russian infantry started shooting at Spanish skirmishers.
British infantry started retreat under German fire – many shocked and wounded in they ranks.
Uhlans took care about supply train, but the battle was over. Victory belongs to England and Spain.
Summary: – it was really bad idea in taking lvl 1 leaders – I did this mistake. – sometimes that cards can be really disappointing – when your enemy activate his units and you stay and wait few turns for doing it – of course under enemy fire. Tiff is nice card, but sometimes It could be shuffled out. – still it was a great game and I hope that we will start all campaing from it.
Today we started new campaing with Krzysiek – during last one my Russians did not found moonshine recipe, so they changed area. Last time we played Russian – French campaign, now we started with Russia vs Wittenberg.
There are three people we should talk and capture.
First units arrived.
More units arrived – on Russians side line infantry, uhlans, two unit of Jagers and a cannon.
On Wittenberg side big unit of constripts and volunteers, two unit of skirmishers and a medium cannon.
Russians slowly moved toward one person to talk.
Uhlans galloped forward.
Wittenbergians marched forward in the middle and on the left.
Russian Jagers took position in the forest.

One part of the unit separated and moved forward under leadership of adjutant.

Again infantry first shoot at uhlans to make them shocked, then defeated them in hand to hand combat.
Polish Uhlans left the field.
Skirmishers could return to they job.
After shoot Russian Jagers runned forward.
Another Russian unit advanced to the cover.
Russian Regular Line infantry started shooting on Germans.
Both skirsmishers started shooting each other.
Jagers tried to help they centre, but soon were surronded by enemy skirmishers.
Cannon started shooting from positions on the hill.
Germans take slowly advance – red dices are shocks, blue dices are losed soldiers.
Enemy outflanked Jagers.

Russian infantry made step back.
Cannon started firing grape-shots.
While the others started retread, brave artillerist covered they escape.

German skirmishers took one guy supposed to be a spy.

After suffering lose skirmishers fled from the hill.
But it was over, wounded artillerists took gun and runned.
It was over. Russians took no one…

Summary: – I guess that if you want to have fun from cavalry – u need to take them more – they are really cheap – group of 8 costs 5 points plus leader in case of uhlans. Maybe two groups of 16 can do special things. – we played on 61 points in Bolter.pl. – Sharp Practice is great system for narrative playing – one Krzysiek leaders broke his leg, other one was heavily wounded by Russian Jagers bullet.
🇵🇱 Tego wieczoru Marian i ja rozegraliśmy kolejny rozdział naszej kampanii, a Krzysiek pełnił rolę mistrza gry. Tym razem żołnierze z dwóch różnych rosyjskich batalionów dowiedzieli się, że ktoś w samym środku wioski posiada recepturę na wyjątkowy bimber. Dowódcy obu batalionów wysłali tam swoich ludzi, ale żaden z nich nie nawiązał kontaktu z drugim.
🇬🇧 This evening, Marian and I played another chapter in our campaign, with Krzysiek serving as game master. This time, soldiers from two different Russian battalions learned that someone in the middle of the village possessed the recipe for exceptional moonshine. Both battalion commanders sent their men in, but neither had made contact with the other.
🇵🇱 Podsumowanie: – Dzięki Krzyśkowi i Marianowi za fajną grę, Piotrkowi i Bolter.pl za udostępnienie miejsca do grania oraz Rafałowi za świetne tereny. – To był deszczowy wieczór, ale na szczęście graliśmy pod dachem. – To była świetna gra z Mistrzem Gry i bardzo ciekawym scenariuszem. – Ułani – tutaj moje serce zostało złamane. Po poprzedniej bitwie sojusz rosyjsko-pruski nie zdołał przejąć transportu zaopatrzenia z wódką z rąk Francuzów i ich szwajcarskich najemników. Tym razem Rosjanie zmierzyli się z Francuzami w scenariuszu związanym z więźniem – słynnym wytwórcą bimbru.
🇬🇧 Today Kris and I played the next game in our campaign. After the previous battle, the Russian-Prussian alliance failed to seize the vodka supply convoy from the French and their Swiss mercenaries. This time, the Russians faced the French in a scenario involving a prisoner – a famous producer of moonshine.
🇵🇱 Podsumowanie: – Jako gracz Bretonnii nadal nie jestem do końca pewien, jak najlepiej wykorzystać polskich ułanów w służbie rosyjskiej, ale być może kilka kolejnych gier nauczy mnie, jak używać ich właściwie. – Tym razem zagraliśmy na 50 punktów na stronę. – To była bardzo przyjemna gra, mimo że moi Rosjanie wciąż są dalecy od osiągnięcia swojego celu w tej kampanii.

🇵🇱 Tydzień po utracie ratusza, domu publicznego i sklepu z wódką Rosjanie znaleźli sojusznika, gotowego pomóc im odzyskać utracone mienie. W końcu nie można było dopuścić do tego, by Francuzi sami cieszyli się całym tym alkoholem. Działając na podstawie informacji dostarczonych przez swoich szpiegów, Rosjanie i Prusacy przygotowali zasadzkę na tabor przewożący cenny ładunek.
Dowodzeni przez „Pruskiego Dziedzica” Prusacy połączyli siły z moimi Rosjanami i Polakami, aby zastawić pułapkę. Po drugiej stronie stanęli „Generał”, Szwajcarzy oraz Francuzi Krisa. Niestety dla planujących zasadzkę, pułapka nigdy tak naprawdę nie doszła do skutku – Rosjanie opróżnili poprzedniej nocy ostatnie butelki alkoholu i rano nie byli w stanie ruszyć w marsz.
🇬🇧 A week after losing the town hall, the brothel, and the vodka store, the Russians found an ally willing to help them recover their lost property. After all, the French could hardly be allowed to enjoy all that vodka by themselves. Acting on information provided by their spies, the Russians and Prussians prepared an ambush for a wagon train carrying valuable cargo.
Led by the “Prussian Heir,” the Prussians joined forces with my Russians and Poles to spring the trap. On the other side stood “the General,” the Swiss, and Kris’s French. Unfortunately for the would-be ambushers, the trap never truly came together – the Russians had emptied the last bottles of alcohol the previous night and were in no state to march by morning.
🇵🇱 Podsumowanie: – Graliśmy w czteroosobowej grupie; do tej pory w Sharp Practice grałem wyłącznie jeden na jednego. – Moi Rosjanie i Polacy najwyraźniej nie byli trzeźwi – na początku poruszali się tak wolno, że nawet jegrowie mieli problem z przeskoczeniem przez żywopłot. Prusacy byli za to znacznie bardziej zdyscyplinowani. Wyraźnie muszę pomalować jeszcze kilka oddziałów do mojej armii carskiej, zwłaszcza tych formowanych na ziemiach polskich. – To była bardzo dobra gra i wielkie podziękowania należą się moim współgraczom oraz Rafałowi z Bolter.pl za przygotowanie pola bitwy. – Oczywiście większość Polaków walczyła po stronie Napoleona, choć część służyła także w oddziałach formowanych przez cara. Mimo to jedną z najlepszych kawalerii świata była właśnie kawaleria polska – od husarii aż po brygady ułanów z czasów II wojny światowej. – Ten dzień był pełen historii. Ponieważ chciałem być na czas, a po pracy i tak zrobiło się późno, wziąłem taksówkę, żeby odebrać moje figurki, i wdaliśmy się z kierowcą w rozmowę. Jego ojciec był polskim czołgistą w 1939 roku, a jego jednostka stacjonowała w pobliżu Kutna. Podejrzewam, że mógł służyć w 1. batalionie czołgów polskich wyposażonym w 7TP. Każdy zdaje się nosić w sobie jakąś ciekawą historię. – Jedno z dwóch zdjęć, które wysłałem doGazety Wrocławskiej, zostało opublikowane na ich stronie — to przedstawiające stare polskie reklamy na moim budynku we Wrocławiu. Użyłem słowa Breslau (niemieckiej nazwy Wrocławia) i najwyraźniej nikt nie zauważył, że te napisy były w rzeczywistości polskie i pochodziły już z okresu po 1945 roku. A nawet gdyby były niemieckie, to co z tego? Powinniśmy pamiętać o historii i o ludziach, którzy żyli tu przed nami. Nie wiem, jaka byłaby reakcja, gdybym napisał, że moja babcia, której nigdy nie poznałem, mogła być Austriaczką albo Niemką — spór o to między moim ojcem a ciotką nadal pozostaje nierozstrzygnięty. Niestety zmarła, zanim się urodziłem. – Jeśli chodzi o przyjaźń, ludzie różnych narodów nadal mogą być przyjaciółmi, nawet jeśli między ich krajami istnieją trudne historie. Myślę, że naprawdę lubię Rosjan i Niemców, ale poznałem też wspaniałych ludzi wśród Mołdawian, Hindusów (dzięki, Govinda), Filipińczyków, Basków, Włochów, Ukraińców, Białorusinów, Holendrów, Belgów, Irańczyków i Amerykanów. Mam nadzieję, że w przyszłości poznam jeszcze więcej osób, bo zawsze warto poznać ich opinie, ich historie i ich kulturę. Pozdrowienia z Wrocławia w Polsce.
🇬🇧 Summary of game, day and life: – We played in a group of four players; until now, I had only played Sharp Practice one-on-one. – My Russians and Poles were clearly not sober – they moved so slowly at the start that the Jägers even had trouble getting over a hedge. The Prussians, by contrast, were much more disciplined. I clearly need to paint a few more units for my Tsarist force, especially those raised in the Polish territories. – It was a very good game, and many thanks go to my fellow players and to Rafał from Bolter.pl for preparing the battlefield. – Of course, most Poles fought for Napoleon, though some also served in units raised by the Tsar. Even so, one of the finest cavalries in the world was Polish cavalry – from the Winged Hussars to the uhlan brigades of the Second World War. – The day was full of history. Because I wanted to be on time but ended up running late after work, I took a taxi to pick up my miniatures and got into a conversation with the driver. His father had been a Polish tank crewman in 1939, and his unit had been deployed near Kutno. I suspect he may have served in the 1st Polish Tank Battalion, equipped with 7TP tanks. Everyone seems to carry an interesting story behind them. – One of the two photos I sent to Gazeta Wrocławska was published on their website – the one showing old Polish advertisements on my building in Wrocław. I had used the word Breslau (the German name for Wrocław), and apparently no one noticed that those signs were actually Polish and dated from after 1945. And even if they had been German, what difference would that make? We should remember history and the people who lived here before us. I am not sure what reaction I would have seen if I had written that my grandmother, whom I never met, may have been Austrian or German – that dispute between my father and my aunt still remains unresolved. Sadly, she died before I was born. – As for friendship, people of different nations can still be friends, even when there are difficult stories between their countries. I think I genuinely like Russians and Germans, but I have also met wonderful people among Moldovans, Indians (thank you, Govinda), Filipinos, Basques, Italians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Dutch, Belgians, Iranians, and Americans. I hope to meet even more people in the future, because it is always worth getting to know their opinions, their stories, and their culture. Greetings from Wrocław, Poland.
🇵🇱 Dzisiaj razem z Krisem rozegraliśmy kolejną partię Sharp Practice – jego Francuzi przeciwko moim Rosjanom. Zagraliśmy na 50 punktów, z niewielkim dodatkiem ponad ten limit. Jego siły obejmowały oddział dragonów, piechotę liniową, dwie jednostki tyralierskie oraz działo. Ja wystawiłem piechotę liniową pod sztandarem, grenadierów oraz dwa oddziały jegrów. Wciąż uczymy się tego znakomitego systemu skirmishowego, a ja nadal muszę pomalować jeszcze kilka modeli, żeby stworzyć sobie bardziej uniwersalne siły. Być może kiedy skończę ułanów, również ich wypróbuję.
W scenariuszu jedna strona się broniła, a druga atakowała. Głównymi celami były trzy budynki, które nazwaliśmy magazynem/stajnią, kamienicą oraz domem publicznym.
🇬🇧 Today Kris and I played another game of Sharp Practice – his French against my Russians. We played at 50 points, with a little extra on top. His force included a unit of dragoons, line infantry, two skirmish units, and a cannon. I fielded line infantry under a banner, grenadiers, and two units of jägers. We are still learning this excellent skirmish system, and I still need to paint a few more models to create a more versatile force for myself. Perhaps once I finish the uhlans, I will give them a try as well.
The scenario had one side defending and the other attacking. The three main objectives were buildings we named the warehouse/stables, the townhouse, and the brothel.

My Russians consisted of a line infantry unit with its command group, a unit of grenadiers, and two groups of jägers. Rafał’s force included line infantry, another infantry group, skirmishers, and a unit of conscript cavalry.
🇵🇱 Podsumowanie: – To bardzo ciekawa gra skirmishowa, a dodatkowego uroku dodają jej niespodziewane wydarzenia, które czasem mogą wystąpić w trakcie bitwy. – Próba zebrania piechoty do porządku, kiedy już znajdzie się pod ostrzałem, bywa dość trudna – żołnierze nie zawsze mają ochotę słuchać swoich oficerów. Iwan zasłużył sobie na awans na sierżanta. – Wiara może pomagać w redukowaniu Szoku, który działa trochę jak system pinów w Bolt Action – jednostka obciążona zbyt dużą liczbą punktów Szoku staje się coraz mniej pewna i coraz mniej skuteczna. – Wielkie dzięki dla Rafała i Piotrka za świetną grę oraz za pomoc w znalezieniu odpowiedniego modelu księdza – teraz muszę tylko trochę popracować nad nim green stuffem, żeby przerobić go na prawosławnego popa.
