Last Thursday (29.06.2024) in Bolter, Wrocław we played with Gingerhead our first game in Gods of War: Togo – before the release of Royal Navy I played many games against Empire of Japanese. Anyway this time I met with Royal Navy near Claudette Island. Before this game, I had three games fought in one afternoon against Goldfish Royal Navy.

W ostatni czwartek (29.06.2024) we wrocławskim Bolterze, zagraliśmy z Gingerhead naszą pierwszą grę w w Bogów Wojny: Togo – przed wydaniem Królewskiej Marynarki Wojennej grałem wiele gier przeciwko Cesarstwu Japonii. Tym razem spotkałem się dla odmiany niedaleko wyspy Claudette z brytyjską marynarką wojenną. Przed tą grą miałem trzy rozgrywki stoczone jednego popołudnia przeciwko Brytyjczykom Karasia.

Russian flagship recieved several hits, some of them started fire. Rosyjski okręt flagowy otrzymał kilka trafień, kilka z nich rozpoczęło pożary.

Both fleets coming close to each other. Obie floty zbliżyły się do siebie na krótki dystans.
Russian flagship – Suworow losed to massive Royal Navy artillery volleys. Rosyjski okręt flagowy – Suworow stracony od licznego ognia floty brytyjskiej.

Varyag attempts to save a day by ramming… Variag próbował ratować dzień przez taranowanie…

Summary:
– I losed badly 81 to 8, so it was massacre.
– Royal Navy was raised due great help of campaign started on Kickstarter.
– thank you Gingerhead for great game! Still Royal Navy is something I had to learn how to play with.


Podsumowanie:
– przewaliłem tą grę strasznie, 81 do 8, to była masakra.
– Królewska Marynarka Wojenna powstała dzięki dużej pomocy kampanii na Kickstarterze.
– dziękuję Gingerhead za świetną grę! Nadal wiem, że jest trochę nauki jak grać na Królewską Marynarkę Wojenną.

Gods of War: Togo – A battle for lone island Sobota, Mar 9 2024

Yesterday with admiral Cornholio we played a game in Gods of War: Togo, our game was played in Bolter on 2,000 points of they own navies. So I took my Russian Navy and Łukasz played his Imperial Japanese. Our game was typical for games we play with Łukasz in any system we are playing.

In historical case I want to dedicate this post to general Jerzy Rusiło-Wołkowicki, hero of Russian Navy during Russian-Japanese war 1904-1905, after that he was a hero of Soviet Russian Navy as well – one of two Polish generals who survived Katyń – only 500 hundreds of more than 20,000 Polish officers, policeman, border guards, priests survived. Yes, Jerzy Wołkowicki is my countrymen and it wasn’t anything special to be a part of Austrian, German or Russian armies in times, where Poland wasn’t on maps (yet it was always in hearts of Polish people).

Our scenario was – counter-courses, which was interesting to play (again and again it’s interesting).

Lone island.
Russian Baltic Fleet.
Japanese Imperial Navy.
Measure according to ship speed and the order.
Orders are planned before they are taken.
So be it.
Both fleets coming closer.
Torpedo boat released torpedos, they were brave…
and died.
Almost ramming, almost.
Few against power of Russian Navy.
Novik crew manage to sail as fast as possible.
Varyag was lost.
Just meters from hitting island.
Borodino Suworow was rammed by Borodino Borodino…
Unfortunately it was my biggest success.

Summary:
– another great evening on Wieczór weteranów in Bolter, Friday weekly event, when Bolter is opened to late hours. A chance to meet many good people at once.
– we are waiting for second edition of Gods of War: Togo with English version of rulebook and one more fleet – Royal Navy. More about it HERE.

OFFTOP
– anyway wish you all good weekend and peace, no matter where you are or who you are – my mind is going to Ukraine&Russia, Palestinians, Yemen. As I mentioned Jerzy Wołkowicki who was and maybe still is hero for Russian Navy, we had generals Kazimierz Puławski or Tadeusz Kościuszko who were heroes of Independent War of USA. How many heroes do we share as people? Are they always soldiers? Most probably many of them are not military, like Ludwig Pasteur, Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Henry Ford and many, many others. From Sokrates to Tolkien beyond artifical divisions; engineers, merchants, psychologists, scientists, writers etc.

Yesterday with Paweł we played a game on 1200 points per side, both of us had Russian fleet, both were different. We played scenario to get out from the board on the opposite corner. We finished scenario… let read to the end 😉 !

Summary:
– I losed my flagship – Borodino – Suworow, but Paweł losed two of his warships – at the end it was draw.

Gods of War: Togo – Kickstarter final countdown Środa, Czer 14 2023

Today is a last day of Kickstarter campaign for Gods of War: Togo – in addition to main goal which was release rulebook for game in English along with Royal Navy fleet several more achievements were achieved and maybe some more will be achieved – there are still four hours for doing it.

Gods of War: Togo – Seek and destroy! Sobota, Czer 3 2023

Yesterday with Duderson we played one more game in our never ending campaing of Japanese Empire vs Russian Empire. Today we played classical game – to destroy as many enemy ships as we can. Game lasted for around two and half hour and our fleets at the end were shadows, of what we had at the start.

We played our game in Bolter, local Wrocław game store/club with everything tabletop gamer, boardgames gamer or RPG player needs. Gods of War: Togo is again on Kickstarter – English version will be releasead as it was said after day of Kickstarter – HERE you can read about it. A lot of materials about this simple but not trivial system are HERE.

Varyag and Pernov class torpedo boats.
Japanese Empire of Duderson.
Few more Japanese ships.
Both sides visible with part of admiral Duderson.
I tested different placing of my Suworow and Borodino battleships.
Eight Russian heavy guns from both battleships were able to shot on Japanese.
Duderson has two fleets of smaller ships with ability to spread minefield.
Here are both Borodino-class – Borodino and Suworow – I have to buy three more Borodino class to make them all.
Nowik class and Aurora move on the right flank.
Varyag turns left.
Both fleets coming closer, both Borodino and Suworow changed positions.
Japanese first lose, ship close to island on the right, have to remember name of this one.
Both fleets after some turns.
Both Borodino class ships had too much work to do.
Almost ramming, jet they were able to evade.
We had to end, our time was over. It was again great game, thank you Duderson.

Summary:
– another great game with Duderson – it was my big victory 28:4, but one more turn and probably it could be a draw, as my flagship was burning and received too many shoots on close distance.
– again I’m thinking that two battleships on two thousands points are must to have in case of my own Russian fleet, deploying them is another question.

 

Gods of War: Togo – Clash on the counter-courses Poniedziałek, Maj 29 2023

Today we played with Duderson our never ending naval clash of empires of XIX/XX century – on my side tzar Empire of Romanow dynasty and on Duderson side Japan Empire. We played scenario called „Clash on the counter-courses”, where both fleets had to cross board on the opposite corner of the table. As always we played in Bolter, official partner of GM Boardgames – studio which released Gods of War: Togo and older Gods of War: Rober E. Lee and Gods of War: Napoleon.

If you are interested in this great game – we have one important news – rulebook is under translation to English and Royal Navy will be another fleet in this simple but not trivial game – HERE are more informations about it.

After first turn both fleets were in such positions.
Japanese torpedo boats moved to cross path of Russian navy.
Island made our hitting harder, as we shot over it.
Japanese torpedo boat sent torpedos, but none of them scored a hit.
Massive fire from Russian fleet sunk one group of torpedo boats.
Other group of torpedo boats succesfully passed beetwen Russian ships.
First ramming, Buynyi class started getting water, with it crew trying to safe ship from sunking.
Second ramming, succesful – ship which got many hits before from Russian Borodino class ships: Suworow and Borodin sunk after being rammed.
Third ramming… Aurora rammed Suworow, both ships survived, but started sunking.
Torpedo boats captain decided to surrender – were destroyed by they own ship, as Japanese do not surrender.
Japanese fleet moving into the correct exit corner.

Last ship on the table which missed crossing corner was Aurora.

Summary:
– great game, thank you Duderson! Waiting for one more game soon.
– this time it was my victory – 70 to 43.

 

Gods of War: Togo – Line battle on Japanese Sea Poniedziałek, Maj 8 2023

Today with Witosław we played a battle on 2,000 of points per side, I played my Russian Baltic fleet and Witosław took his Japanese. Our game took around two hours, the losses were smaller than usually – I losed group of torpedo boats because of my mistake.

When we played a game designer announced new fleet – Royal Navy – some details of it on the bottom 😉 .

Russian fleet composed from top left: Borodino class – ‚Borodino’ and ‚Suworow’, Varyag, Pallada class ‚Aurora’, group of Pernows and Nowik.
Japanese fleet composed of several big ships like Mikasa and three groups of torpedo boats and destroyers.
Both sides on one photo.
Just move and fire from heavy artillery of both Borodinos.
Some shell hat ships rudder on Mikasa.
Turn one finished.
Borodino class – Suworow.
Turn two started.
Some ships started maneuvers to achieve main goal of scenario.
Unfortunately I rammed my own Pernow class torpedo boats…
… which was only group of warships sunken today.
Closer and closer to leave this part of the sea.
Japanese ships were leaving soon as well.
Mikasa.
Both fleets attempts to leave this part of the sea.
Russian ships who left the table…
… and Japanese. Only Aurora was on the table when we finished.

Summary:
– it was great game in our never ending struggle with Witosław, at the end we counted points and it was 62 to 58 for Japanese – it was a Draw.
– one good thing I can say – Royal Navy is on sight and there is incoming project for it on Kickstarter HERE and some words on GM Boardgames on they Facebook HERE. Plus some words about it on my blog HERE.

 

Gods of War: Togo – Somewhere on Japan Sea Poniedziałek, Kwi 17 2023

Today we played with Duderson battle on 2,000 per side – I played with Russian Baltic fleet composed of the same fleet I played last time. Duderson played Japan Imperial Navy. Both of us participate in Gods of War: Togo – league 2023 – so our result was send to organizer after game was over.

Both fleets after first turn. On the top left is Japanese minefield.
Turn two, were Duderson torpedo boats left one more minefield.
Somewhere during turn three – one more minefield was set up…
… but miner was destroyed by combined fire of Russian fleet – especially Varyag.
I losed Pernov class torpedo boats.
Got some fire on my admiral flag ship Borodino class „Knyaz Suvorov”.
During fire with „Aurora” Japanese ship got several fires. Aurora sunk.

The same was done by Russian Baltic fleet.
Ramming by accidents happend several times, including accidents not only with other ships but islands as well.

Summary:
– at the end we counted points and it was 44 for Duderson and 56 for me meaning minor victory for my fleet.
– another great game, when I was taking care about mines in the water. Thank you Duderson!

 

Gods of War – Togo: Borodino’s vs Mikasa Piątek, Kwi 7 2023

Today with Witosław we had game on higher points – 2,000 points per player. I used fleet of two Borodino class battleships, three cruisers – Varyag, Pallada class – Aurora, Novik and one group of torpedo boats. On the other side were Mikasa, three cruisers and three fleets of torpedo boats. We spend good time playing on „Wieczór weteranów” (in en – veteran evening) – day when Bolter is opened longer and all different games are played, today also painting evening was organised.

Somewhere in Pacific Ocean the story begun.

Russian Baltic fleet.
Japanese Imperial Navy.
Both sides after turn one.
Turn two, faster vessels get in contact, one group of Japanese torpedo boats were sunk by Novik and Varyag.
One of the torpedos scored hit on Varyag.
Another group of torpedo boats was sunk.
Heavily damaged Varyag rammed last group of Japanese torpedo boats.
Both sides had to sail into opposite corner of the table.
Novik turned left to achieve that.
Mikasa scored critical hit nad Varyag sunk in a moments.
Whole Russian fleet started turning.
Japanese did the same. Mikasa was hit several times by Borodino main guns, losed rudder…
but her crew managed to repair it.
Moment when Aurora also losed control, as her rudder was damaged…
… and started circling around island…
Going around and around to the end.

Summary:
– good game which resulted as Draw – I had 50 points to Witosławs 54.
– we agreed to play revenge game in next two weeks.

Nothing related to navy, rediscovered this great song.

 

Gods of War: Togo – Bolter event on 25.03 Środa, Mar 29 2023

On last Saturday in Bolter we had event organized by „Torgill” – Maciej Molczyk in system developed by GM Boardgames – company from Wrocław, Poland. They have two great systems I had possibility to own Gods of War: General Lee and Gods of War: Togo.

So it was – I had three great games before I went to my another birthday party, great time spend with several admirals including Torgill with whom I played our first game in Togo ever. Summary:
– it was great to play my first tournament in Togo with many great people, wish to play again and one more time I had to do list before event, mines were waiting and did critical job.
– thank you Maciej for patience, but this time as I was a little bit late, I had to talk with my great neighbour and go back home for token orders.

Polish TV used it for one programme – „Morze”.
