🇬🇧 Today I finished my first model for Oak & Iron, a game by Firelock Games. It’s a small galleon painted in the colors of the old, proud French navy — one of six ships included in the starter box for the second edition of the system. Buying the starter set in June this year was a bit of a crazy move for a simple reason (which I won’t get into now), but let’s just say the last box was calling to me from the shelves of the Bolterclub in Wrocław.
The model was a real pleasure to paint — I followed both guideI found and did some of my own research via Google. Assembly is even easier — just six parts including the base. The ship’s name isn’t historically accurate; although I searched online for something suitable, nothing really fit. So I went with Jeanne d’Arc, the French national heroine and Catholic saint. The remaining ships are already primed — the sooner I finish them, the sooner I can play a game.

Nazwa nie jest historyczna, chociaż szukałem czegoś odpowiedniego w internecie, to nic nie pasowało – tak więc padło na francuską bohaterkę narodową świętą kościoła katolickiego Joannę d’Arc. Kolejne okręty czekają w spodkładowane, im szybciej je skończę, tym szybciej zagram jakąś grę.

🇬🇧 Today I managed to finish the famous German Tiger — Panzerkampfwagen VI, probably the most iconic German tank of World War II. Built in a total of 1,355 units, it caused chaos wherever it appeared, and was operated by tank aces such as Wehrmacht’s Otto Carius and SS’s Michael Wittmann. The tank was never the most-produced armored vehicle of the German Third Reich. Around 6,000 Panther tanks were built — not to mention the numerous Panzer IVs or Stug assault guns. Nevertheless, it’s the Tiger that became legendary.

Zbudowany w ilości 1355 sztuk wszędzie gdzie się pojawił siał zamęt, a walczyli na nim tacy czołgiści jak as Wehrmachtu Otto Carius czy as SS Michael Wittmann. Czołg nigdy nie był najliczniej wyprodukowanym pojazdem pancernym wojsk niemieckiej III Rzeszy. Samych Panter zbudowano około 6,000 sztuk, nie mówiąc o czołgach typu Panzer IV czy działach pancernych typu Stug, mimo wszystko to Tygrys przeszedł do legendy.

All of them have been magnetized to make transportation alongside the rest of the Togo miniatures easier. All that’s left is to arrange a game where the Martian forces launch an attack near the small village of Gdynia, only to be repelled by the combined forces of Tsarist Russia and Imperial Germany — or perhaps somewhere in the Far East near Port Arthur, where they clash with the joint forces of Tsarist Russia and the Land of the Rising Sun.

Wszystkie one zostały zmagnetyzowane, by móc łatwiej je transportować z resztą miniaturek do Togo. 🇬🇧 On Monday evening, I managed to paint a Soviet tank desant team — the so-called tankodesantniki. Twelve soldiers, mostly armed with submachine guns — the famous PPSh — and a DP-28 light machine gun. In Bolt Action, such units are rarely seen, but I aimed for versatility so they could also be useful in the Chain of Command system. I still have plenty of Red Army soldier models to paint — and even more to strip so I can repaint them a bit better.

🇵🇱 W poniedziałkowy wieczór udało mi się pomalować drużynę desantu czołgowego Armii Czerwonej, czyli tzw. oddział tankodesantników. Dwunastu żołnierzy uzbrojonych w większości w pistolety maszynowe, czyli słynne pepesze (PPSz) oraz lekki karabin maszynowy DP-28 . W grze Bolt Action raczej rzadko widuje się takie oddziały, ale uniwersalnie celowałem również, by byli użyteczni w system Chain of Command. Przede mną jeszcze sporo modeli żołnierzy Armii Czerwonej do pomalowania i jeszcze więcej do zmycia by pomalować ich trochę lepiej.

🇬🇧 Last weekend, together with a group of friends, I visited Prague. This time we took the train there and returned by Flixbus. A definite mistake was buying new shoes instead of taking my mountain hiking ones after all, Prague is a city built on many hills along the Vltava River. For the first time in a very long time, I walked so many kilometers on foot.
The start of the sightseeing was great, but later I suffered due to poorly broken-in shoes — and to be honest, I’m still limping a bit. This time I visited places I hadn’t been to before, like the TV tower and the Jewish cemetery right next to it in Žižkov. Of course, that day we also checked into the hotel and then took public transport to the Vietnamese SAPA center — a place filled with everything and nothing. Literally everything was there — all kinds of services, cafés, warehouses, shops. It’s an interesting place, although personally I prefer to focus on Czech cultural heritage when I’m in the country. Still, the Vietnamese community has become deeply rooted in Czech society, and you can find them in many places, not just SAPA. We returned to the hotel crossing a railway bridge. After getting off at the wrong stop, we returned to the hotel, and after freshening up, we headed to a place serving kebabs, pizza, and Pilsner, where the friendly staff offered generous portions. And that was it for Friday.
On Saturday, we headed through Vyšehrad to the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, then crossed the Vltava River to enjoy an excellent meal at Restaurace Mlynská. We saw the Memorial to the Victims of Communism, various sculptures, and explored a variety of sites — most of them are documented in the photos below. I could barely walk, but I still managed to make it to the end.
On Sunday, we left the hotel at 9:15 and headed for breakfast — of course — at Restaurace Mlynská. Afterwards, we continued exploring Prague, visiting, among other things, the monument to politicians ignoring the people, the John Lennon mural, and the Old Town Square. We spent our final moments there at the Švejk pub, which was full of quotes from the book. Eventually, we had to make our way to Florenc station, from where we took the bus back to Wrocław.

🇵🇱 W ostatni weekend w gronie przyjaciół odwiedziłem Pragę, tym razem była to wycieczka koleją w tamtą stronę, powrót odbył się Flixbusem. Błędem było zdecydowanie się na zakup nowych butów, zamiast wzięca takich do chodzenia po górach – w końcu Praga to miasto położone na wielu wzgórzach nad Wełtawą. Pierwszy raz od bardzo długiego czasu pokonałem tyle kilometrów pieszo.
Początki zwiedzania były super, ale potem cierpiałem z powodu złego, nierozchodzonego obuwia i w sumie do tej pory kuleję. Tym razem odwiedziłem miejsca, których wcześniej nie odwiedziłem jak wieżę telewizyjną, cmentarz żydowski tuż obok tej wieży bo na Żiżkowie. Oczywiście tego dnia odwiedziliśmy hotel po czym pojechaliśmy komunikacją miejską do wietnamskiego centrum SAPA – obfitującego we wszystko i nic. Dosłownie było tam wszystko – wszelkiego rodzaju usługi, kawiarnie, magazyny, sklepy, ciekawe miejsce, chociaż osobiście wolę w Czechach patrzeć na czeski dorobek kulturowy. Nadal Wietnamczycy wrośli w Czechy w ten czy inny sposób i można ich spotkać w wielu miejscach, nie tylko w SAPA. Przechodząc mostem kolejowym po pomyleniu przystanków wróciliśmy do hotelu, gdzie po odświeżeniu wybraliśmy się do lokalu z kebabem, pizzą i Pilsnerem, gdzie sympatyczna obsługa serwowała obfite porcje. I to by było tyle na piątek.
W sobotę ruszyliśmy przez Wyszehrad na cerkiew Cyryla i Metodego, po czym przekroczyliśmy Wełtawę by trafić na świetne jedzenie do Restauracji Młyńskiej. Odwiedziliśmy pomnik ofiar komunizmu, różne rzeźby i zwiedzanie tego czy tamtego – większość z tych miejsc jest udokumentowana na poniższych zdjęciach. Ledwo chodziłem, ale mimo wszystko ustałem do końca.
W niedzielę opuściliśmy hotel o 9:15 i udaliśmy się na śniadanie do a jakże, Restauracji Młyńskiej, po czym zwiedzaliśmy dalej Pragę odwiedzając m.in. pomnik polityków olewających ludzi, mural Johna Lenona czy Rynek. Tam spędziliśmy ostatnie chwile w pubie Szwejk, z licznymi cytatami z książki. Koniec końców musieliśmy wyruszyć na dworzec Florenc, skąd wracaliśmy autobusem do Wrocławia.
