🇬🇧 On first July Friday, we played our first game of Oak & Iron by Firelock Games.
It was essentially a scenario taken straight from the rulebook, including the assigned ships and all other components—such as initiative cards—needed to understand the basics of this charming naval game. In this introductory battle, we followed the instructions for Player A (English fleet), which consisted of a corvette and a flute, while Player B (French fleet) commanded a sloop and a small frigate.

The Oak & Iron starter set includes everything needed to embark on your high-seas adventure: six ships, dice, a sea mat, measuring tools, tokens, islands, and various types of cards—such as ship cards, captain profiles, and event cards (e.g. weather changes). When assembling my starter set, I decided to paint three ships in English colors and three in French.

While working on the painting process, I began looking for more information and community resources related to the game—and that’s how I came across a very informative video on YouTube that turned out to be extremely helpful.

🇵🇱 W piątek 4 lipca rozegraliśmy pierwszą grę w Oak&Iron od Firelock Games. Właściwie była to rozgrywka wzięta prosto z podręcznika, tak przypisanie okrętów jak i wszelkich innych rzeczy w tym kart inicjatywy, potrzebnych do zrozumienia tej jakże sympatycznej gry. W pierwszej grze gdzie kierowaliśmy się instrukcją po stronie gracza A (angielskiej) wzięły udział corweta i fluita, po stronie gracza B (francuskiej) slup i mała fregata.

Zestaw startowy zawiera wszystko, co potrzebne do zaczęcia morskiej przygody czyli sześć okrętów oraz kości, matę, miarki, tokeny, wyspy oraz różnego rodzaju karty – między innymi okrętów, kapitanów czy zdarzeń np. zmiany pogody. Swój zestaw startowy zacząłem składać tak, by trzy okręty były w barwach angielskich i trzy w barwach francuskich. W trakcie malowania zacząłem szukać stron poświęconych grze i tak znalazłem taki wartościowy materiał w serwisie YouTube.

🇬🇧 The French frigate, battered but still afloat, was the first to slip away into the open sea. 🇵🇱 Francuska fregata pierwsza odpływa w siną dal.

🇬🇧 Summary:
– The skirmish itself, during which we were learning the rules, was very enjoyable, and we’ll definitely return to the game in the near future.
– A potential issue for the game gaining a wider player base in the Polish market is its availability – as far as I know, Firelock Games currently doesn’t have a distributor in our country.
