🇬🇧 Recently, I managed to finish a squadron of cruisers from Vladivostok. These ships came in a set — a large, sturdy box containing three carefully protected cruiser models, along with a set of cutters and boats, and of course the ship cards for Gromoboi, Rossiya, and Rurik. I painted the ships in the recommended Pacific Fleet color — Brown Violet from Vallejo’s Panzer series — and used Olive Green 76.519 from the same manufacturer as a wash.
Naturally, I invite you to take a look at the photos of the painted squadron, followed by a few shots from the unboxing and preparation of the models for painting.

🇬🇧 Summary:
– The ships were a real pleasure to paint; they are now waiting for their first battle and will most likely join my roster for the Polish Championships in Togo, which will take place this October.
– The Rossijskij Imperatorskij Flot — my favorite Russian fleet — has gained a few more cruisers, which will undoubtedly make an excellent addition to the very fast Askold and Varyag, both of which I recently had the pleasure of describing on my blog.
– Meanwhile, just around the corner on Pola Chwały 2025 (Fields of Glory 2025 in English) in Niepołomowice, Małopolska, another fleet — the seventh for Bogowie Wojny: Togo — will be revealed: the Marine Nationale, the French fleet. And no, the Martians don’t count as a fleet, but they are a great addition for cracking open a beer and playing a narrative scenario, which we recently did — and I wrote about it HERE.

🇵🇱 Podsumowanie:

Great to see how these little fellows look before you paint them up so well👍🏻, the film of the Russian navy and the sing was amazing, hearing people sing in there language always interesting.
Thank you🙂. I’m always trying to add some native languages songs. Last time it was Polish version of Spanish ladies I think. Wanted to add unpacking to show people how those ships look before painting🙂.
As always, very nice models that have painted really well! 🙂 I didn’t know about that colour scheme for the ships either – makes them quite distinctive!
Thank you 🙂 . According to GM Boardgames: „Painting of the Port Arthur Squadron posed a challenge due to uncertainties in historical sources and the difficulty in determining the exact shades used at that time. The photo of the Varyag below shows a variant using Vallejo Olive Green paint. Despite heavy use of dark washes, the result is not entirely satisfying as the models appear too bright.
Therefore, a better approach would be to use Vallejo 70.887 US Olive Drab (also known as Brown Violet), as seen in the next photo depicting the battleship Peresvet. After applying this color, it should be shaded with Athonian Camoshade from Games Workshop (GW).” Anyway using different wash was good idea this time.
Interesting! Thanks for the info! 🙂 If there’s one colour I’m not short of it’s Olive Drab/Brown Violet, since I use that for WW2 US vehicles!
They did great guide for all those ships John 😉 . You can look on it here https://www.gmboardgames.com/blog/en/painting-guide-for-ships/
That is a really useful guide! Thanks for posting the link – I’ve put it in my favourites list! 🙂
There is also one more useful guide related to doing water. I can add it in comment if you want🙂.
No, I think I’ll just leave water for now thanks! 🙂 I like your bases but I take the easy way out and go for a plain blue!
